Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan ‘Ogogo’ dies at 66 after battle with cancer
Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66.
Hassan died at about 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, 2026, after battling stage-four cancer. His death was confirmed by his daughter, Kira Taiwo, while veteran actor Jide Kosoko also announced the development and the burial arrangements.
The development came less than a week after Hassan’s daughters, Kira and Haleemah, publicly disclosed that their father was battling stage-four cancer and appealed for medical assistance.
In an emotional appeal shared online, the daughters said they were seeking medical professionals and treatment options that could help their father. They also raised concerns about the difficulty they had faced in getting continued hospital treatment for him.
A doctor who later addressed the situation explained that stage-four cancer can significantly limit treatment options and that a shift towards palliative care does not necessarily mean a patient has been abandoned.
Following his death, Kosoko announced that Hassan’s remains would be taken to his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State. The actor is scheduled to be buried there on Monday, August 24.
