Omotola: Movie Promotion Should Be Fun, Not Forced Dance
Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has shared her opinion on the rising trend of using dance videos to promote movies, saying she supports it only when it happens naturally and not out of pressure.
Speaking during a recent interview on TVC Entertainment, Omotola explained that many actors push back against dance promotions because they are often made to feel compulsory.
“I love to dance, but the problem is when you dance because you have to, not because you want to. There’s a difference,” she said.
She noted that there is nothing wrong with actors having fun and dancing while promoting a film, but it should not replace proper marketing work.
According to her, an actor’s main duty is to deliver a good performance, while promotion and advertising should be handled by marketing professionals.
“When it turns into a chore, it’s no longer professional. I’ve done my job by acting in the movie. I can talk about it and promote it, but distribution and advertising should be left to those trained for it,” she added.
Omotola’s comments follow similar views shared by filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, who recently said he would not dance to promote a film and questioned the financial value of big-budget productions for filmmakers.
Her remarks have sparked fresh debate on social media about whether Nollywood actors should be pressured to create viral dance content to sell their movies.
