Nigerians fail to support celebrity businesses, Laura Ikeji says
Laura Ikeji has criticised Nigerians for not buying from businesses owned by celebrities.
The fashion entrepreneur and sister of Linda Ikeji made the remarks in a video posted on her Instagram page. She noted that people quickly support celebrities through their music, movies, and online lifestyles but hesitate to purchase from their brands.
Laura explained that this lack of support causes many celebrity businesses to shut down after a few years. She added that fellow celebrities rarely patronise one another’s ventures, which further hinders growth.
Investors also show reluctance to fund such businesses. They worry about how celebrities prioritise their finances.
The beauty influencer pointed to international stars like Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Kim Kardashian, whose fans strongly back their business efforts. She highlighted her own success with her brand LB, saying she is not a celebrity yet her business does well.
“ I am not a celebrity. I sell, we do great at LB. Think about it. Celebrities should be selling millions in merch. But hey…,” she stated.
Laura urged Nigerians to support the celebrities they admire by buying from their businesses whenever possible.
