Selena Gomez warns fans against vaping after saying nicotine habit changed her voice
American singer and actress Selena Gomez has warned fans about the dangers of nicotine vaping after revealing that the habit changed her voice, describing quitting nicotine as a difficult experience.
The 34-year-old star made the admission in a video shared on her Instagram Story, where she reflected on her vaping habit and urged people who currently vape or are considering starting to reconsider their decision.
Gomez said she believes the changes to her voice may be permanent, expressing regret over her past nicotine use.
“I vaped nicotine a lot. Nicotine is so hard to quit, and I think I just wanted to say, if you’re going through it, or if you’re even trying to vape, it’s just not worth it,” she said.
The singer added that the habit had affected her voice, encouraging people struggling with nicotine dependence not to give up on quitting.
“If you are going through something, you can get through it too,” she told her followers.
Gomez’s revelation comes after fans reportedly noticed a difference in her voice during an Instagram Live session in December.
At the time, she attributed the change to swelling in her throat but did not mention vaping as a possible factor.
Although Gomez believes her voice has been permanently affected, her statement alone does not establish a medical diagnosis or confirm that vaping was the sole cause of the changes.
Nicotine is highly addictive, and quitting can be challenging. Vaping can also expose users to substances that may irritate the respiratory tract. Anyone experiencing persistent hoarseness or other voice changes should seek medical advice rather than assume the cause.
Gomez has previously been open about her health struggles, including her diagnosis of lupus, an autoimmune disease that led to a kidney transplant in 2017.
She has also spoken publicly about her mental health, including her bipolar disorder diagnosis, which featured prominently in her 2022 documentary, Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me.
By discussing her experience with nicotine vaping, the singer has added another personal health issue to the list of challenges she has addressed publicly.
Her latest message focuses on the difficulty of breaking an addictive habit and the importance of considering the possible consequences before starting.
