Ayra Starr opens up on what she wants in a partner
Nigerian singer Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, popularly known as Ayra Starr, has sparked fresh conversation about relationships after speaking about the role physical attraction could play in her decision to remain with a partner.
The singer was reported on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, to have said she would consider ending a serious relationship if she met another man she found more attractive. The comment has drawn attention because of her earlier remarks about what she values when choosing a partner.
In April, Starr told media personality Diana Eneje that she did not have a particular physical type and was more attracted to intelligence. She said she wanted a partner who could motivate her and whom she could also motivate, adding that looks did not matter much to her.
She made a similar point during a Twitch conversation with Nigerian content creator Jarvis, saying her type was “not too physical” because a person could be attractive without having sense.
Her comments on relationships have also been shaped by her own experience. In March, Starr revealed that her song Where Do We Go was inspired by a secret relationship that she described as an unhealthy situationship. She said the relationship was known only to the two people involved, while her friends advised her to end it.
In an August interview with the BBC, Starr explained that the relationship had become stuck but that she repeatedly returned to it. She said the difficulty of starting over with someone else also made leaving harder, but eventually chose her priorities after the relationship began affecting other parts of her life.
Where Do We Go, released in March 2026, became part of the story of that relationship, with Starr using the song to explore the uncertainty of a romance that had no clear direction.
