Barry Jhay opens up on fame, wealth and life after losing his father
Nigerian singer Barry Jhay has opened up about fame, wealth, family, and his journey in the music industry, saying he would choose financial wealth over celebrity status if given another life.
Barry Jhay made the remarks during an interview with Akin Abalade, where he reflected on his experience as a musician and the realities that come with being famous.
The singer said fame can become dangerous when it begins to affect a person's thinking, describing it as something that can get into people's heads like a drug.
Barry Jhay said that while he has spent years pursuing music, he would rather have financial security than fame if given another opportunity to live his life.
Speaking about his upbringing as the son of late Fuji music legend Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, he said:
“I was born a Nepo baby, but after losing my dad and everything, I am hustling like a Lapo baby.”
Sikiru Ayinde Barrister, widely known as Ayinde Barrister, was one of the pioneers who helped shape modern Fuji music in Nigeria. Barry Jhay has previously identified his father as the reason he chose music as a career.
Speaking about his relationship with music, the singer said his father's legacy played a major role in his decision to become an artiste, while acknowledging that carrying a famous family name does not remove the need to work.
“My father is the reason. He’s the reason why I do this. I thank God that I carry his name,” Barry Jhay said.
Despite having spent about a decade in the music industry, Barry Jhay said he still sees himself as an upcoming artiste and remains focused on building his career.
The singer's comments come as he continues to release new music. Barry Jhay released “Pami” featuring ZiiBeats on September 25, 2026, following his 17-track project, Barrystar, Vol. 2.
