Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi has stirred reactions online after suggesting that marriages should come with a five-year expiry period, allowing couples to decide whether to continue or walk away.

Speaking during an episode of the Dear Life Series, Bovi argued that a fixed-term marriage contract could encourage partners to make greater efforts in maintaining healthy relationships.

According to him, if a spouse is unhappy after five years, they should be free to leave the marriage. He also claimed that knowing a contract is close to expiring could motivate couples to improve their behaviour and strengthen their relationship.

“Every marriage should have a five-year expiring date. If the man isn’t happy, he should be free to leave. When there’s just one year left on the contract, you’ll see your spouse adjusting their character,” he said.

The comments have since sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some users agreeing that marriages should not trap unhappy partners, while others argued that marriage is a lifelong commitment that should not be treated like a renewable contract.
