Nigerian singer Burna Boy has said his drummer and music director, Emmanuel Abiola-Jacobs, popularly known as Manny, may not have met his wife if he had followed through with his decision to quit secular music.

Burna Boy made the remark while speaking at Manny’s wedding, recalling that the drummer had once considered leaving secular music to return to Christianity.

The Grammy-winning singer asked Manny whether he would have met his wife if he had left the music industry, joking that he would instead have been in church.

“Manny, you said you wanted to dump music and go back to Jesus and Christianity? If you had quit music, would you and your wife have met?” Burna Boy said.

He continued by joking about the life Manny would have had if he had abandoned secular music, saying he would have been in church “clapping and praising the sky.”

Manny has been part of Burna Boy’s band, The Outsiders, since 2019 and serves as the singer’s lead drummer and music director.
