Chidimma Adetshina says she was targeted as deportation case moves to 2027
South African-Nigerian beauty pageant titleholder who won Miss Universe Nigeria 2024, Chidimma Adetshina, has accused South African authorities of treating her unfairly and attempting to make an example of her as her deportation case was postponed to 2027.
Adetshina spoke to journalists outside the Cape Town Regional Court on Wednesday, August 19, after the court postponed proceedings concerning her possible detention and deportation.
“I believe that I have been treated unfairly and targeted. And there has been an attempt to make me an example,” she said.
The court postponed the matter until February 27, 2027, saying it could not determine whether Adetshina should be detained pending deportation until the Western Cape High Court rules on her separate review application against the Department of Home Affairs’ decision.
Adetshina has been ordered to remain at her current address and report regularly to an immigration officer while the case continues.
The latest court proceedings were also met with protests outside the courthouse, with members of Operation Dudula and the March and March movement calling for Adetshina to leave South Africa.
Adetshina, who was born in South Africa, is challenging the government’s position on her immigration status and has maintained that she has been unfairly targeted in the dispute.
Her case will now return to court in February 2027.
