Afrobeats superstar Davido has gifted his former signee Mayorkun a Tesla Cybertruck, announcing the surprise on his Instagram Story alongside a message to the singer.

"My gift to you. I love you #iammayorkun," Davido wrote.

Mayorkun, born Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, responded on his own Instagram Story with "Love 4L, OO1," a nod to the bond the two have maintained years after their professional relationship ended.

The Cybertruck, Tesla's stainless-steel electric pickup, retails in the US between $69,990 and $99,990 depending on configuration, placing the gift's value well into the hundreds of millions of naira at current exchange rates.

Davido signed Mayorkun to his label, Davido Music Worldwide, in 2016 after coming across a cover video he had posted online while still working a bank job. Davido reached out the same day Mayorkun submitted his resignation letter, signing him shortly after and launching his career with the single "Eleko."

The pair went on to build one of Nigerian music's most closely watched artist-label relationships, with Mayorkun releasing his debut album, The Mayor of Lagos, under DMW in 2018 before exiting the label in 2021 to sign with Sony Music West Africa, a move he has since said Davido helped facilitate.
