Nigerian singer Davido has advised couples to keep some money in their personal bank accounts, saying both men and women should have financial independence.

The singer shared his opinion during an appearance on The Uncut Podcast, where he was asked if women should have secret bank accounts away from their partners.

Davido agreed, saying having a personal account can be useful because “you never know” what could happen in the future.

He, however, made it clear that the advice should not apply to women alone.

According to him, both partners should have money they can call their own and be able to “mount their ground” when necessary.

Davido also said he would not be angry if he found out that his wife had a secret bank account.

“If I ever found out, like, my wife had a secret bank account, I’ll not be angry,” he said.

The singer jokingly added that he might even contribute to the account.

Davido concluded by saying that everyone in a relationship should have personal finances, even while sharing responsibilities with their partner.

“I think everybody should have their own.”
