Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has urged United States President Donald Trump to pay attention to the August 15 governorship election in Osun State amid concerns over possible violence and disruption of the poll.

Davido appealed in a post on X on Tuesday, calling on the United States and the international community to monitor the election.

“President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election. There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process. Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear. I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that every voter is protected and every vote is respected. We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election,” he wrote.

Davido’s appeal comes amid heightened concerns over political violence ahead of the election.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Osun State Council, recently raised concerns over reported political violence in the state, citing data from Kimpact Development Initiative which recorded 44 election-related violent incidents and 13 deaths between October 2025 and June 2026.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has also identified 385 flashpoints and 200 difficult terrains across the state ahead of the election.

The Nigeria Police Force has stepped up preparations for the poll, with Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu visiting Osun and warning politicians and their supporters against violence.

“This is an election, not a war,” Disu said during his visit to the state.

Davido’s post has also drawn reactions from social media users questioning his decision to appeal to Trump over an election taking place in Nigeria.

Responding to one of the critics, Davido responded saying:

“He’s my president too, I get dual citizenship..any problem?”

The Osun governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15.
