Edo State governor’s aide bans Davido from performing in state
Apostle Kassy Chukwu, Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media to Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, has declared that Davido is banned from performing in the state for the remainder of the governor’s tenure.
Chukwu made the declaration in a video shared online on Thursday, August 20, amid the ongoing dispute between Davido and Okpebholo.
“You have been banned from coming to Edo State to perform. We don’t want to see you in Edo again,” Chukwu said.
The aide also warned that Davido could face a hostile reception if he returned to the state, claiming that some Edo youths were angry with the singer.
The dispute between Davido and Okpebholo followed the governor’s comments about Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is Davido’s uncle, during the build-up to the August 15 governorship election.
Davido subsequently shared what appeared to be Okpebholo’s WAEC result on his Instagram Story. He later defended the post in an interview, saying he had no reason to apologise.
Davido’s logistics manager, Israel DMW, has since rejected the declaration, saying no one could ban the singer from visiting or performing in Edo State.
