EFCC questions El-Rufai over loan use and spying allegation
Former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai is being questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations linked to his time in office.
Sources say the investigation focuses on how certain loans were handled, claims of irregular contract awards, and accusations that Kaduna State was left with heavy debt under his administration. He is also expected to respond to an allegation that he approved the monitoring of the phone of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
An EFCC source disclosed that the probe had been ongoing for about a year before El-Rufai was invited for questioning, explaining that the commission usually completes most of its investigations before calling in suspects.
According to the source, El-Rufai remained in EFCC custody as of Monday night and had not been released.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed that the former governor honoured the invitation but did not give details about what was discussed.
For now, the anti-graft agency says the investigation is still in progress and more updates are expected in the coming days.
