Nigerian content creator and filmmaker Folagade Banks has premiered his debut feature film, A Mama Deola Wedding Story, ahead of its September 3, 2026 release exclusively on Kava TV.

The premiere was held on Wednesday, September 2, at IMAX Cinema, Circle Mall, Jakande, Lekki, Lagos, with actors and entertainment personalities turning up in wedding-inspired outfits in keeping with the theme of the film. The event also marked the premiere of Kava TV’s first original movie.

Directed by veteran actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo, A Mama Deola Wedding Story expands Banks’ popular Mama Deola character from his comedy skits into a feature-length story. Banks serves as the film’s producer and executive producer and stars as Mama Deola.

The film follows Mama Deola, a boisterous market trader determined to give her son, Femi, a wedding grand enough to impress his wealthy and dismissive in-laws.

According to Kava’s official synopsis, Mama Deola, unable to afford the wedding but unwilling to admit it, takes a ₦10 million loan from a ruthless lender and turns to stingy relatives to help finance the celebration. Disagreements over clothing, catering, and social class threaten the wedding, while a long-buried act of kindness eventually resurfaces and brings both families together as the debt comes due.

Omowunmi Dada and Rotimi Salami play the central couple, Demilade and Femi, while the ensemble cast includes Shaffy Bello, Bukky Wright, Idowu Phillips, popularly known as Iya Rainbow, Erica Nlewedim, Toyin Abraham, Lola Idije, Akin Lewis, Toyin Adewale, Ronke Oshodi Oke, Blessing Jessica Obasi, Damilola Oni and Ronke Odusanya, among others.

The film has also attracted attention for the scale of its wedding sequence. Banks previously said the production brought together more than 600 cast members for the scene, which he said was filmed for about 20 hours continuously. He described it as the biggest wedding scene he had seen in a movie.

Production took place at locations including Ziba Beach Resorts and Vintage African Lagos, with Michael Joseph credited for the film’s visuals.

The wedding-themed premiere reflected the film’s central storyline, with guests asked to follow a “White Wedding Couture” dress code. Celebrities including Toyin Abraham, Kate Henshaw, Osas Ighodaro, Shaffy Bello, Kie Kie, Mo Bimpe, Lateef Adedimeji, Mercy Aigbe, Omowunmi Dada and Rotimi Salami attended the event in bridal-inspired gowns, suits and other wedding-themed looks. A ₦1 million prize was also announced for the best-dressed guest.

The premiere generated further attention online as guests shared images and videos from the wedding-themed red carpet, while moments involving celebrities at the event circulated on social media.

The film’s release represents a new stage in Banks’ career, taking the Mama Deola character, which established his identity in Nigeria’s digital comedy scene, into feature filmmaking. The project is also the first instalment of a planned Mama Deola movie franchise.

A Mama Deola Wedding Story was written by Brooks Eti-Inyene and directed by Femi Adebayo. The film is classified as a comedy, drama, and romance and has a runtime of 2 hours and 25 seconds.
