“I Never Openly Supported Peter Obi Or Any Politician In 2023 At Any Point” — Falz
Nigerian rapper, songwriter and actor Folarin Falana, also known as Falz, used a Tuesday appearance on Arise Television's 'Prime Time' to shut down years of speculation that he backed Peter Obi's 2023 presidential run, insisting he's stayed neutral through every election cycle.
"Just a point of correction. I never openly supported Peter Obi or any politician or party in 2023 or at any point," he said. "I have actively encouraged people to go out and vote."
Falz argued that Nigeria's political class keeps recycling the same names regardless of who wins, making any endorsement feel hollow. In his words, he says:
"We've been going in cycles, and it just seems like almost the same crop of people we keep on reshuffling. At the end of the day, it's tough to even sit anywhere and vouch for a Nigerian politician in 2026."
Still, he left the door open. Falz said he'd reconsider if a candidate earned his full confidence, but for now he's holding back rather than stake his name on anyone.
This comes in as Peter Obi resurfaces politically ahead of 2027, this time on the Nigeria Democratic Congress platform alongside Rabiu Kwankwaso, after his Labour Party run in 2023 drew massive youth support online, a support Falz has long been associated with by public perception, given his own history of youth-focused civic campaigns and his outspoken role during the #EndSARS protests.
The rapper didn't stop at neutrality. He also weighed in on President Bola Tinubu's performance so far, referencing Tinubu's own pre-election pledge to fix power supply as a benchmark he says the administration hasn't met.
