'I’m Still Being Body-Shamed After Weight Loss - Eniola Badmus
Nollywood actress Eniola Badmus has marked five years of her weight-loss journey with a blunt message to her critics: the insults didn't stop, they just changed direction.
In an Instagram post, Badmus said she's gone from 170kg to 83kg since 2021, a drop of nearly 90kg achieved through what she described as years of discipline and sacrifice, not a shortcut.
Her frustration wasn't really about the weight. It was about who kept showing up in her comments.
According to her, the same people who mocked her size when she was heavier have pivoted to mocking her now that she's lost it, this time over loose or changing skin, which she says is a normal part of losing that much weight.
She pushed back on the idea that her silence online means the comments don't land. Words, she said, still have consequences, insults or not.
Badmus also aimed a message specifically at women, arguing that much of the criticism she receives comes from other women, despite the popular "women support women" line. She's asking for that support to actually show up when a woman is working on her health, not just when it's convenient to say.
"Nobody deserves to be bullied for being plus-size, and nobody deserves to be bullied for losing weight either. I'm proud of my journey. I'm still growing, still healing, and still becoming the best version of myself. You don't have to love my body, but you can choose to respect it," she wrote.
