Iyabo Ojo: “I just shared what I saw at the airport, nobody hired me”
Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has shut down rumours that she was secretly hired by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) after a video she posted about the Lagos airport sparked online drama.
What started as a simple post quickly turned into a storm of criticism. Many people assumed the actress had suddenly switched sides and was now promoting a government agency she once spoke against.
But according to Iyabo Ojo, the story people created in their heads is far from the truth.
She explained that she was only at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport to shoot a movie scene. While there, she noticed changes in the airport environment and decided to talk about it online, nothing more, nothing less.
“There was no appointment. No contract. No payment,” she said. “I just spoke about what I saw.”
The actress said she found it strange that people quickly concluded she must have been paid just because she spoke positively about a government facility.
Her point, she explained, is simple: if something looks better than before, she will say it.
“If I see improvement, I will talk about it. Not because of politics or money, but because progress should be acknowledged,” she stated.
She also rejected claims that she used her influence to get special treatment at the airport, stressing that she followed the normal process to get permission to film.
Meanwhile, FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, supported her explanation, saying the actress was never appointed as an ambassador and was not paid to promote the airport.
According to her, Iyabo Ojo was only encouraged to help create awareness about the airport’s upgrades while filming her movie scene.
With both sides speaking out, the actress insists the viral video was simply her personal observation. It is neither a political move nor a paid advert, and not a loyalty shift.
In her words, “If something is working, I will say it. That’s all.”
