Teqsus Studios has announced a buy-one-get-one-free ticket offer for King Kosoko: The Battle for Lagos ahead of Nigeria’s Independence Day celebration on October 1.

The promotion, announced on Wednesday, September 30, applies as the historical drama continues its cinema run more than a month after its nationwide release.

King Kosoko: The Battle for Lagos opened in cinemas across Nigeria on August 28 after its Lagos premiere at IMAX Cinema, Lekki, on August 23. The film is distributed by FilmOne Entertainment.

The Yoruba-language historical drama is directed by Adebayo Tijani and centres on Oba Kosoko, the 12th Oba of Lagos, whose reign featured prominently in the political struggles surrounding Lagos during the 19th century.

The story is set between 1833 and 1852 and follows the contest for the Lagos throne, political rivalries and the resistance to forces seeking influence over the affairs of the kingdom.

Femi Adebayo plays the lead role of Oba Kosoko, with Jide Kosoko, Odunlade Adekola, Femi Branch, Gabriel Afolayan, Taiwo Hassan, Tina Mba, Yinka Quadri and Faithia Balogun among the cast.

The production features more than 70 actors and was produced by Teqsus Studios. Ayo Ajayi and Segun Ololo Kosoko are credited as producers, while Marc Adebesin served as co-producer.

Its theatrical release followed a promotional campaign that included the Lagos premiere, where traditional rulers, members of the Kosoko royal family and figures from the Nigerian film industry were among those present.

Since its August release, King Kosoko: The Battle for Lagos has remained part of the cinema schedule. Silverbird Cinemas, for example, currently lists the 2-hour-13-minute Yoruba-language drama among its titles showing in cinemas.

The October 1 ticket promotion therefore comes during the film's ongoing theatrical exhibition, giving the production a new cinema offer for the Independence Day holiday.
