Nollywood actress Mo Bimpe has responded to social media criticism over a viral video showing her interacting with fellow actor Jide Awobona at the premiere of A Mama Deola Wedding Story in Lagos.

The video, recorded at the September 2, 2026 premiere, showed Bimpe seated between Awobona and her husband, actor Lateef Adedimeji. She was seen resting her arm on Awobona’s shoulder as they looked at something on her phone and chatted.

The clip, which circulated on social media days after the premiere, attracted reactions from users who questioned the nature of the interaction. Some suggested that Adedimeji appeared uncomfortable during the moment, while others defended the interaction as a friendly exchange between colleagues and friends.

Bimpe addressed the criticism in an Instagram Story on Sunday, September 6, describing the interaction as a normal conversation between friends.

“A one minute clip of myself & Jide has somehow become a topic of public analysis. It’s fascinating how a normal conversation between friends has become suspicious to some of you. Not every marriage is built on fear, insecurity, and constant monitoring. Some marriages are built on trust, friendship, respect, and confidence,” Bimpe said.

The actress also suggested that the reactions to the video reflected the kind of relationships some of the commentators were accustomed to rather than the reality of her own marriage.

“The fact that so many of you found that interaction strange says more about the relationships you’re used to than it does about mine,” she added.

Bimpe further rejected suggestions that the video indicated a problem in her marriage, stating that not every marriage is toxic and that healthy relationships still exist.

“Not every marriage is toxic, there are still healthy marriages but I understand if you can’t relate,” she wrote.

Defending her husband’s reaction to the interaction, Bimpe described Adedimeji as a secure man and said her conversation with Awobona, whom she identified as a family friend, did not threaten their marriage.
