Pastor Jerry Eze has opened up about the difficult early years of his marriage to Pastor Eno Eze, describing the period as “hell” and revealing that he once considered ending the union.

The Streams of Joy International founder recalled an incident during the first week of their marriage when his wife became angry while arranging cups and plates in the kitchen. According to Jerry, she swept the items off the counter, leaving him shocked and afraid that the situation could become physical.

He said he went to their room, packed his belongings and left the house. Jerry added that similar incidents continued, leaving him cautious about what he said around his wife.

He also recalled a separate incident during a trip to London. Jerry said a disagreement started after he briefly entered another shop without informing his wife. When he asked her, “Do you want me to be afraid of you?”, she walked away and returned home, leaving him stranded on the high street.

Jerry said he eventually contacted her friend and learnt that his wife was already at home. He later returned, packed his belongings, changed his flight and left London that night.

According to the pastor, he eventually reached a point where he prayed and told God he wanted to end the marriage. He said his perspective changed after he felt God impress on him that marriage was “not a destination” but an “assignment.”

Jerry said that realisation changed how he approached the relationship. Rather than focusing on what he expected from his wife, he began to focus on his own responsibility within the marriage.

Looking back, he said his wife has since changed significantly, describing her today as “one of the sweetest persons you would ever meet.”

“She was not like this,” he said while reflecting on the early years of their marriage.
