Nollywood veteran Richard Mofe-Damijo joined the Male Feminists Network in Abuja on Friday, urging men to end violence against women and push for more female representation in government.

The African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development appointed the 65-year-old actor as an MFN Ambassador for the Prevention of Gender-Based Violence at the event.

RMD pointed to his own film sets as proof women deliver. "If you want to have anything done in government, put a woman in charge, and you can sleep with your eyes closed," he said.

He didn't stop there. "Correcting them does not mean hitting and beating them. It is easier to talk to people these days than to use your fist," he told men directly.

RMD also pushed back on the idea that GBV is a fight for women alone. "It is not something only women can fight," he said, calling on men to lend their voices to women's rights organisations.

Centre LSD's Director of Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning, Dr Victoria Oseyande Udoh, said the wider project has already reached 11,721 participants nationwide since launching in April 2025, training 52 master trainers across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones.
