Jacobs, whose real name was Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, died at the age of 84 on September 16, 2026. His family announced his death through his son, Olusoji Jacobs.
In a condolence statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described Jacobs as one of Nigeria’s most distinguished actors, whose career spanned theatre, television and film.
“He was a giant of the Nigerian creative industry. His passing is a great loss to Nigeria, the African film industry and the global community of lovers of the performing arts,” Tinubu said.
The President also praised Jacobs for helping to shape and professionalise Nigeria’s entertainment industry, saying his talent, discipline and dedication inspired generations of actors and filmmakers.
Tinubu said Jacobs’ body of work would continue to speak to future generations, while highlighting his contribution to Nigeria’s cultural identity, global image and creative economy.
