Toyin Abraham’s ‘Oversabi Aunty’  is now streaming on Netflix and Kava, nearly a year after the Nollywood comedy-drama opened in cinemas.

The film became available on the platforms on October 2, 2026, extending its run beyond the Nigerian cinema circuit and giving audiences who missed its theatrical release access to the movie from home.

'Oversabi Aunty’ was released in cinemas on December 19, 2025, with Toyin Abraham serving as its writer, director, producer and lead actress. The film centres on Toun, a church usher whose habit of interfering in other people’s affairs begins to create problems within her own family.

Toun is determined to correct the people around her and often involves herself in matters that do not concern her. Her actions become more complicated as her daughter prepares for marriage, putting her relationships and family life under pressure.

The film features Abraham alongside Mike Ezuruonye, Enioluwa Adeoluwa, Jemima Osunde, Efe Irele, Tana Egbo-Adelana, Toyin Afolayan and Ngozi Ezeonu, among others.

Its move to streaming follows a strong cinema performance that saw Oversabi Aunty cross the ₦1 billion mark at the Nigerian box office.

By January 2026, the movie had grossed about ₦1.017 billion, according to figures released during its theatrical run. The achievement placed Abraham’s directorial debut among Nollywood films that have recorded a billion-naira cinema gross.

The milestone also made Oversabi Aunty the first Nollywood directorial debut to cross the ₦1 billion mark at the box office.

Following the box-office performance, the National Film and Video Censors Board recognised Abraham with a Box Office Champion Award in March 2026, creating a path of recognition for the commercial performance of Oversabi Aunty and Abraham’s achievement with her first directorial project.

The film’s streaming release therefore comes after several months of theatrical exhibition and industry recognition, moving the title into another stage of its commercial life.

The release also comes ahead of her next announced film project, Bestie, which is scheduled to open in cinemas on December 16, 2026.

With Oversabi Aunty now available on Netflix and Kava, viewers can watch the film following its ₦1 billion-plus cinema performance and its recognition by the NFVCB.
