Veekee James says she will charge $100,000 per dress instead of relying on brand deals
Celebrity fashion designer Veekee James says she will stick to high-end dressmaking over social media influencing, aiming to eventually charge $100,000 for a single custom gown.
Speaking on the CreativiTea podcast, the designer explained that brand endorsement deals have a strict financial limit compared to the money made from luxury fashion.
"My dream is to start charging $100k to sew one dress. I can't make that much money from content creation," she said. "The most a brand can give you is $500k, and that's usually for a year-long contract."
She added that making just a few custom dresses brings in far more money in less time than signing year-long contracts with corporate brands.
Veekee James (Victoria James Atere) broke into the Nigerian fashion industry through her signature corset dresses, elaborate beadwork, and luxury bridal wear. She built her brand by styling top celebrities and high-profile brides across Africa.
While she runs a massive social media presence with viral videos and lifestyle posts, she views online content as a tool to promote her dressmaking business rather than her main source of income.
