The family of late Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, will hold a 40th-day prayer for the veteran Nollywood star on October 2, 2026.

His daughter, Shakirat “Kira” Taiwo, announced the gathering on Instagram on Wednesday, inviting family members, friends and well-wishers to join the prayer in Ilaro, Ogun State.

The event is scheduled to begin at noon at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground, Ilaro-Yewa, where Ogogo was buried following his death last month.

The prayer comes as the family continues its burial rites for the actor, who died on August 23 at the age of 66 after battling stage-four cancer.

Ogogo's final days became public in August when Kira and her sister, Haleemah, appealed for medical assistance. The sisters revealed that their father had been diagnosed with advanced cancer and sought help exploring treatment options after conventional treatment became difficult.

The actor was buried according to Islamic rites in Ilaro on August 24, with colleagues from the Yoruba film industry attending the ceremony.
An eighth-day Fidau prayer followed on August 31, drawing actors including Odunlade Adekola, Ibrahim Chatta, Yinka Quadri and Jide Kosoko.

The family had earlier announced an Artists' Day as another programme in honour of Ogogo. The event was planned to bring entertainers together in Ilaro to celebrate his contributions to Yoruba cinema.

Ogogo began his acting career in 1981 and later became one of the established figures in Yoruba-language filmmaking. His credits included Owo Blow, Aníkúlápó and Aníkúlápó: Rise of the Spectre, among other productions.
