Federal Civil Servants to Get Full-Year Gratuity on Retirement
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a new Exit Benefit Scheme that will give retiring civil servants gratuity equal to 100% of their yearly salary. The plan kicks off January 1, 2026, for anyone with 10 years or more in service.
The scheme is designed to top up the existing pension, giving employees in ministries and government agencies extra financial security when they retire.
Head of Civil Service, Didi Walson-Jack, called it a “landmark step,” saying it shows the government values the dedication of civil servants and wants them to retire with dignity.
This comes 22 years after the pension system was first overhauled, highlighting the government’s push to make retirement benefits more meaningful. More details on how it will work are expected soon.
