Lagos to Reintroduce Monthly Sanitation Exercise in April 2026
The Lagos State Government has announced the return of its monthly environmental sanitation exercise, which was suspended in 2016.
The exercise will resume on Saturday, April 25, 2026, and will thereafter hold on the last Saturday of every month from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the initiative is aimed at improving cleanliness across the state and strengthening waste management efforts.
He explained that residents are expected to clean their surroundings, clear drainage channels, and properly dispose of waste during the two-hour period.
Wahab described the move as part of efforts to promote a cleaner and more environmentally responsible Lagos, adding that enforcement measures will support compliance.
The sanitation programme was previously suspended in 2016, but the state government says the reintroduction is necessary to address ongoing environmental challenges.
